Tim and Kristen's Engagement {Heathsville, VA Photographer}

People come in and out of your life, but it's the ones that stay that matter most. Really, those are the ones we care about. The ones that stick around. But it's hard to predict who you'll still know in ten, twenty years from now. If you knew, you might change who you hang around today.

In the summer before fifth grade, I moved to a new town and attended a new school. I don't remember much about fifth grade, but I remember Tim. Not for anything in particular, but he was a good guy. In fact, he saved me from a bully in middle school. Fast forward to today, Tim and my husband are good friends. We all lived in the same neighborhood as kids, knew each other, but we all formed friendships individually. It wasn't until much later in life that we all hung out together. Honestly, I wouldn't have predicted that I would still know Tim as an adult. But I'm glad I do. Mostly because he introduced me to Kristen. Sorry Tim, but Kristen is my favorite. No hard feelings. You get Brad.

Tim proposed to Kristen by a lake... in between two castles... in Germany. Yea, it was epic. Too bad we weren't invited along to take pictures right after the proposal. However, we had a fantastic time shooting their engagement session on the Northern Neck of Virginia.

This first picture is Brad's. He is quite proud that he is getting a picture posted on the blog. As he should be, I adore this photo. I love sun flare and backlighting.

In our search for a scenic beach, we found this mud flat beach. It was private property, as the owner came out to tell us. But he was happy to let us stay once he found out we were taking pictures to celebrate Tim and Kristen's engagement. Thanks John! Without your permission, we would have missed out on all these wonderful shots.

This one is also Brad's shot. What a perfect silhouette! The passion between these two really comes through.

They're so cute... standing in the mud.

If only you could see the concrete platform they are standing on in the next couple shots. We made them wade through the water and mud. We had several shoe casualties. But it was worth it.

They are adorable. Seriously.

Just sitting on the dock of the bay. Watching the tide roll away.

Tim and Kristen, I can't wait for your wedding next year!

Happy Birthday

To Me! (technically my birthday was yesterday - 10:59pm)

All birthdays are special. But, unlike most of the world, I have my own birthday fairy... she grants wishes. Who needs birthday candles when you have your own personal birthday fairy?

Brayden {Harper's Ferry, WV Photographer}

We spent Sunday morning in Harper's Ferry with Brayden and his family. They graciously braved the heat and humidity of this crazy July as we walked around the historic downtown looking for shaded respites.

Brayden is six months old, and this was his first real photo shoot. Turns out, he's a pro.

Look at that face.

He was entertained by everything around us. And I could not compete with the intriguing qualities of this table. Seriously, he LOVED the table.

I adore this one of Jenn and Brayden. The connection between them is palpable.

Brayden stuck out his tongue a lot. I would say it's a baby thing, but I do it too when I am concentrating. So maybe it's not something everyone outgrows. I must admit though, he looks much cuter than me.

Dad is a big guy. Someone you'd want on your side in an alley. Just in case. But he gets this look on his face whenever he watches Brayden that makes him seem like such a teddy bear! It's a combination of pride, love, and amazement.

Thanks to Brett, Jenn, and Brayden for spending the morning with us!

More to come!

Kayleen - Just Because {Woodbridge, VA Photographer}

Sunday evening, Brad and I walked around Potomac Town Center with Kayleen for some fun anytime shots. Kayleen has such a vivacious personality. We knew she was the perfect model to pair with the bold colors outside Uncle Julio's restaurant. Amazingly, we did the whole shoot in 30 minutes! I love when the shots come together so quickly. Clearly, most of the credit has to go to our wonderful model!

I adore this rich blue wall. Kayleen's blond hair pops against the background.

Smokin' hot. You'd think this was her job.

Mid-hair flip

I also have to send Logan our thanks for letting us borrow his car.

These next two are similar, but I couldn't choose a favorite

Love the tile! And you make it look even better...

Sneak Peek - Kayleen

Tonight I had the best time walking around Potomac Town Center with Kayleen. She is a natural in front of the camera, and such a pleasure to work with. Kayleen, you are stunning!

Can't wait to show you more.

There's nothing like being on the water on a warm summer night with the sun setting in the background to send you into the weekend.

I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!
